Abstract:
Cueing is a widely used technique in Parkinson’s disease (PD) rehabilitation. Its relative efficacy is commonly attributed to externally cued movements being less affected than internally generated movements. Nonetheless, the physiology of cueing is not well understood. In this presentation I report on a series of studies addressing the physiology of cueing by means of EEG/MEG-recorded slow brain potentials and oscillatory activity. The results underscore the role of abnormal beta oscillatory activity as well as reduced entrainment of slow oscillations in the pathophysiology of the parkinsonian movement disorder.
