Abstract:
Parkinson’s disease and dystonia are two major neurological diseases that are known to impair movement. In the last decade, research from my lab and the work of others have established that these movement disorders are associated with a somatosensory dysfunction, especially proprioception. This talk will provide a general overview of what we know about the link between proprioceptive and motor impairment in these two diseases. In addition, I will outline potential avenues for a new behavioral treatment that seeks to train proprioception in order to improve motor function.
