Abstract:
One crucial determinant for the upright stance in space is our ability of an intact vertical perception. This ability is multisensory but mainly controlled by an otolith vestibular network. Modern lesion analysis techniques and functional imaging data suggest that cerebellar, brainstem, thalamic but also supratentoriel regions such as the insular cortex are being involved in otolith dominated vertical perception. This talk summarizes based on lesion and functional studies our current knowledge about multisensory otolith structures being involved in vertical perception and want to give new insights on the anatomical regions involved in otolith-dominated vertical perception.
