It is the gravest manifestation of dysfunctional motor programs that highly impairs the playing and threatens a professional career. Its etiology is multifactorial and includes factors as workload at the instrument, pain and overuse syndromes, anxiety and perfectionism as well as a genetic predisposition. Recent pathophysiological findings point at a network disorder comprising cortical, subcortical and cerebellar circuits. Treatments include ergonomic adaptations, anticholinergic drugs, retraining and local injections with botulinum toxin. Registration Link: |
