In this talk, Thomas Misgeld will present insights into axon injury mechanisms gleaned from in vivo imaging studies in mouse models of neuroinflammatory CNS diseases. He will show studies on a potentially reversible form of axon injury that involves an early axonal "energy crisis", which can later progress to reversible loss of membrane integrity and eventually overt axon degeneration. He will also discuss how glial cell damage (to oligodendrocytes and astrocytes) intersects with such axonal injury pathways.
