Abstract:
Many of us are fascinated by sex, and differences between the sexes. I will describe three engaging examples of sexual selection from our lab’s research. First, is there evidence that smarter males are sexier? About half of you might already know the answer. Second, is there more variation in behaviour among males than there is variation among females? The answer provides data to illuminate arguments on social media that invoke biology to explain why more men than women are in STEM, or labelled geniuses. Third, how do you measure the cost of ejaculating, and why would you ever want to? I’ll answer the first part of this question, you can answer the second part.
