Abstract:
Playing video games is a very widely distributed leisure activity in our society. There is a vivid discussion about the possible effects of video game play on the central nervous system. We performed several oculomotor and attentional studies in which we compared the behavior and perception of video game players and non-players, respectively. Amongst others we applied anti-saccade tasks, cued visual search tasks, and countermanding tasks. Although the results of our studies are quite heterogeneous, a common finding in many experiments was the fact that players have shorter reaction times compared to non-players.
