Abstract:
Functional testing of the VOR aims at assessing the VOR without measuring eye movements but based on the ability of the reflex to stabilize gaze in space and thus allow clear vision during head movements. The Head Impulse Testing Device (HITD) approach combines the head impulse test with functional testing and requires subjects to identify optotypes briefly displayed on a screen while an examiner manually imposes a set of head impulses involving a range of angular accelerations. Subjects are then classified based on the percentage of correct answers with respect to a population of controls. The talk will present the basis of the testing approach and the current results on both controls and vestibular neuritis patients.
