Abstract:
Tool use is an ability that we utilize on a daily basis—we are constantly recognizing, reaching for, and grasping objects in order to manipulate them according to their function. In my talk I will focus on the cognitive and neural representations of manipulable object concepts from two perspectives—cognitive neuropsychological evaluations of individuals with brain damage, and functional neuroimaging experiments with healthy adults. Taken together, I will propose a framework that makes predictions about the processing dynamics among manipulable object representations in the neurotypical and brain-damaged system.
