Abstract:
Adrenal corticosteroid hormones are potent modulators of the brain via mineralo- and glucocorticoid receptors, MR and GR. MR and GR function in large measure as transcription factors. Not only do they mediate different effects even within the same neurons, these effects may also differ substantially between different (neuronal) cell types. Aberrant MR/GR signalling may be causal to the development of a range of psychopathologies.

The presentation will cover
1) the discovery of a mechanism for MR-specific transcriptional regulation in hippocampus and consequences for MR dependent target genes, including Fkbp5.
2) the importance of region and gene specific use of downstream coregulator molecules, for example in relation to amygdala Crh regulation.
3) the possibility to selectively target a subset of GR-dependent processes, using novel Selecitive GR Modulators.
