Abstract:
In this talk, I will present recent work using robotics and markerless motion capture to assess and train proprioception with precision and clinical scalability. I will first discuss findings from a randomized controlled trial showing that tailored robotic proprioceptive training improves both hand function and sensory processing in stroke survivors with proprioceptive deficits. These results highlight the critical role of sensory-based interventions in promoting motor recovery. Building on this foundation, I will describe ongoing efforts to develop accessible, markerless motion capture approaches - including webcam-based assessments - that translate laboratory measures of proprioception into clinically practical tools. Together, this work aims to advance more precise and individualized approaches to rehabilitation through improved assessment and targeted proprioceptive training.
